Wedding Anniversary

April 11th, 2008 by Angelyn

Wedding Rings

Lord,  we rejoice on this day, our wedding anniversary. We invite You to fill us with Your Presence. May we always remain grateful for the sanctity of this holy union.

Our path has not always been strewn with roses. We have had our share of difficulties. But they can never outweigh the blessings that You have bestowed upon us.

Thank You, Lord for drawing us together.

Thank You, Lord that our love has grown each year of this union.

Thank You, Lord that our respect of You and each other has increased with each year of our togetherness.

Thank You, Lord that we are both committed to our wedding vows.

Thank You, Lord  for the time You have granted to us, and we humbly ask for continuance of days.

We celebrate Your wisdom in designing marriage and we thank You for each other. Grant that we might continue to be supportive and respectful to one another.

As we honor Christ as the head of our household, we can freely ask for Your blessings.

We thank You as we recognize the value of our spouse in Your Kingdom and how we contribute, and we pray that You revitalize us day by day to keep this marriage strong and Godly. May we never fail You or one another.

We are praising You for this wonderful celebration and we are thanking You, in Jesus’ name for this day, this year, and all that is yet to be. Amen

Prayer for Good Friday

March 21st, 2008 by Angelyn

Crucifixion

This prayer is designed to be said within the family before a Crucifix on Good Friday.

Mother or a child: Jesus lives his entire life for his journey or a child: under the Cross of salvation. St. John’s Gospel gives us some of his last words (12:27-33):

Now my soul is troubled. And what shall I say! Father, save me from this hour. No, this is why I came to this hour! Father, glorify thy Name. There came therefore a voice from heaven: I have both glorified it, and I will glorify it again. Now is the judgment of the world, now will the prince of the world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up, will draw all things to myself.

Father: He humbled himself becoming obedient unto death, even to death on a Cross. Therefore God also has exalted him and has bestowed upon him the name that is above every name, so that at the Name of Jesus, every knee should bend of those in heaven, on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

We adore your Cross, O Lord, and we praise and glorify your holy resurrection

Family: because by this sacred wood joy has come into the whole world.

Father: Let us pray. We beseech you, O God, look upon this your family for whom our Lord Jesus Christ allowed himself to be betrayed into the hands of wicked men and to undergo the torment of the Cross. In his Name grant our petition.

Family: Amen.

Christmas Day

December 25th, 2007 by Angelyn

Nativity Scene

Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds,  and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.   Amen.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

December 8th, 2007 by Angelyn

Immaculate Conception

Saint Anne Conceiving the Virgin Mary by Jean Bellegambe

O God
Who by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin
didst make her a worthy habitation for Thy Son
and didst by his foreseen death
preserve her from all stain of sin,
grant, we beseech Thee,
that through her intercession
we may be cleansed from sin
and come with pure hearts to Thee. Amen

Saint Nicholas

December 6th, 2007 by Angelyn

Saint Nicholas

Gracious and good Lord,
we bless you on this feast of St. Nicholas, your servant,
who is an example to us of a life of charity and love.
May we see in his life an invitation to imitate his good deeds.
Make us always mindful of the needs of others
and help us rejoice in the abundance of your goodness around us.
Through Jesus our Lord. Amen.

 Sacred Heart

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore You, I loved You, and with a lively sorrow for sins, I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make the humble, patient and pure  wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen

Canticle of the Sun

October 4th, 2007 by Angelyn

 Sun

Most High, all powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, the honor,
and all blessing.

To You alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no man is worthy to mention Your name.

Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and you give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praise be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon
and the stars, in heaven you formed them
clear and precious and beautiful.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind,
and through the air, cloudy and serene,
and every kind of weather through which
You give sustenance to Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water,
which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom you light the night and he is beautiful
and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains us and governs us and who produces
varied fruits with colored flowers and herbs.

Praised be You, my Lord,
through those who give pardon for Your love,
and bear infirmity and tribulation.

Blessed are those who endure in peace
for by You, Most High, they shall be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord,
through our Sister Bodily Death,
from whom no living man can escape.

Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those whom death will find
in Your most holy willl,
for the second death shall do them no harm.

Praise and bless my Lord,
and give Him thanks
and serve Him with great humility.

AMEN

Archangels Feast : Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

September 29th, 2007 by Angelyn

 The Archangels with Tobias

According to the Delaney Dictionary of Saints, from the sixth century to 1970, September 29 was observed as Michaelmas Day and honored only St. Michael. Since 1970, September 29 has been celebrated as the Feast of all three Archangels. Michael is known as the great protector; Gabriel as the bearer of good news; and Raphael as the divine healer.

A Prayer to Saint Michael

Saint Michael , Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

-- Pope Leo XIII

A Prayer to Saint Gabriel

Blessed Saint Gabriel, Archangel
We beseech thee to intercede for us at the throne of divine mercy:
As thou didst announce to Mary the mystery of the Incarnation,
so through thy prayers may we receive strength of faith and
courage of spirit, and thus find favor with God and redemption through Christ Our Lord.
May we sing the praise of God our Savior with the angels and saints in heaven
forever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer to Saint Raphael

Blessed Saint Raphael, Archangel,
We beseech thee to help us in all our needs and trials of this life,
as thou, through the power of God, didst restore sight and give guidance to young Tobit.
We humbly seek thine aid and intercession,
that our souls may be healed,
our bodies protected from all ills,
and that through divine grace we may be made fit
to dwell in the eternal Glory of God in heaven. Amen.

Saint Vincent de Paul

September 27th, 2007 by Angelyn

 Saint Vincent de Paul

1580?–1660, French priest renowned for charitable work. He was ordained in 1600. There are conflicting stories about his capture by pirates and enslavement in Tunis and his subsequent escape. In Rome he came to the attention of Pope Paul V, who sent him on a mission to the French court of Henry IV, where Vincent remained as chaplain to the queen. His activism, and the holiness of his life brought about the revival of French Catholicism. He inspired many of the court to an interest in the poor of Paris and was the founder of organized charity in France. In 1625 he founded an order of secular priests to work in rural areas; it became the Congregation of the Mission, called Lazarists or Vincentians. With these priests, St. Vincent conducted retreats, founded seminaries, and achieved widespread reform among the French clergy. For city work he founded the Sisters of Charity. St. Vincent’s influence, through his spirit and through his institutions, is incalculable. He was canonized in 1737. Feast: Sept. 27

Prayer to Saint Vincent de Paul

Dear Saint, the mere mention of your name suggests a litany of your virtues: humility, zeal, mercy, self-sacrifice. It also recalls your many foundations: Works of Mercy, Congregations, Societies. And the Church gratefully remembers your promotion of the priesthood. Inspire all Charitable Workers, especially those who minister to the poor - both the spiritually and the materially poor. Amen
